Different types of Yoga

The 8 main types of yoga:

-Vinyasa-

This type of yoga is moderate to fast paced and flows between poses. Vinyasa gets your blood pumping. Vinyasa is characterised by stringing poses together as that you move from one pose to another, seamlessly, using breath.

-Restorative-

During this yoga practice you would expect to have long holds during your poses. Your body is completely supported and this type of yoga is restful and rejuvenating. Restorative yoga is a restful and peaceful practice that is for slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching.

-Iyengar-

Probs are generally used in this type of yoga and there maybe long holds of standing, seated and supine poses. Lyengar is very precise and focuses on the structural alignment of the physical body during the practice of asana (poses)..

-Kundalini-

Kundalini yoga awakens divine feminine energy and is deeply spiritually focused. This type of yoga includes meditation, pranayama (breathwork), repetitive poses, singing and chants.

-Bikram-

Bikram is a type of Hatha yoga and can also be known as hot yoga. The room is usually around 40 degrees Celsius with around 40% humidity. The aim of this type of yoga is to sweat and detoxify.

-Hatha-

Hatha yoga is slow paced and mindful. This type of yoga can be great for beginners. Hatha yoga uses individual asanas (poses) and pranayama (breath work).

-Ashtanga-

Ashtanga usually has a fast and flowing pace, combined with deep, controlled breathing, but can be physically demanding. The sessions are ordered, have routine and are disciplined.

-Yin-

During Yin yoga sessions would be expect to hold each pose for 1-3 minutes. The poses are usually seated and supine postures. Yin yoga is a quiet contemplative practice.

During our Chair Yoga sessions we use elements from different types of yoga.

We primarily use elements of Hatha yoga, for a slow paced and mindful experience, this is also great for beginners.

We take elements from Kundalini yoga with meditation and pranayama (breath work).

We even use Yin and Restorative yoga sometimes and hold the asana (pose) a little longer.

During all of our sessions we keep them varied, ensuring that there is something for everyone.
